Rain Garden Information

Two rain gardens were planted at Stephen Decatur Park in the Town of Berlin with the help of community volunteers and partnering organizations during the 2nd Annual Berlin Community Clean up in 2010, with additional native plants and shrubs planted during the 3rd annual Berlin Clean-Up Day in April 2011. Families and individuals came out to plant native perennials including Aquilegia canadensis, Lobelia cardinalis, Rudbeckia hirta, Solidago sempervirens, and Asclepias incarnata as well as native shrubs and trees such as Arobia arbutifolia, Magnolia virginiana, and Rosa Palustris. The gardens collect runoff from the recreational walking path, and are enjoyed by park visitors year-round.
